Armeni/Armenoi

Armeni is a sleepy Cretan village located about 2km inland from the sandy beaches at Kalives at the mouth of Souda Bay. A pretty village, it lies on good agricultural land in the Apokoronas, with groves of avocado, orange and olives around.

There are two large tavernas both of which are good, a grill in summer months and a kafenion (photo below), as well as a first class butcher with cheese deli, a new bakery and a small minimarket. The village is shaded by platania trees (Oriental Plane) and the Kiliaris river. The church of Ag. Nikolaos is large and imposing, giving an air of wealth to the village.
