Crete, the Euro and the Greek Economy

Holidays in Crete continue unaffected by Brussels budget talks of supporting the Greek economy and at Pure Crete business is brisk.
The latest EC support package of debt right offs in exchange for spending reductions is designed to keep Greece in the Euro and to balance the budget over time. Greece knows it’s better off in the Euro and so is Europe.
However, if Greece did leave the Euro analysts say it would become 25% cheaper for tourists than other European destinations which would be good for Pure Crete clients.
‘There are no signs here of the occasional demonstrations seen in Athens hundreds of miles away across the sea – life in Crete continues at its normal pace, but the economic crisis means that tourism is more important than ever for the local people this year.’
