Just west of Lake Kournas, set on the side of a hill, in the foothills of the White Mountains is the picturesque traditional village of Embrosnero (or “First Rains”) – a haven of greenery during the hot summer months due to its natural outlet of mineral water.

Embrosnero is only 10 minutes from the lovely village of Vrisses – famous for its fresh sheep’s yogurt and shaded riverside tavernas. The Sandy Blue Flag beaches of Giorgiopoli just 15 minutes away by car. The historical town of Chania with its beautiful Venetian harbour is 30 minutes to the west, while the town of Rethymnon is 30 minutes drive East. The archaeological sites of Knossos and Phaestos are just over an hour’s drive from the village. The village itself has ruins of a Venetian castle, an old chapel built into the rock face, a basic grocery store and a cafeneon.
