Armeni is set in a valley of orange groves, about 2 km inland from the coast at Kalives (pictured). In the village square there is a church, two first class tavernas, a cafeneion, a fabulous butcher and a minimarket.

The following houses at Megala Chorafia have wonderful sea views across Souda Bay

Megala Chorafia Megala Chorafia, is a scatter of houses and farms with three tavernas and a mini-market. Archaeological remains dating from the Minoan and Roman times, are within walking distance and beyond these stands a Turkish castle, perched strategically on the headland overlooking the sea.The local council has recently (2008) annonced that the village name has changed to Aptera and some local signs reflect this change. However the signs on the main road, and the name in maps, remains Megala Chorafia.
