Half way between Chania and Provarma is Malaxa with its outstanding views of the White Mountains, Greek Orthodox Church, Turkish Tower and two cafenions. Two good tavernas are within easy reach of the village which offers a peaceful setting ideal for walking and cycling. Its strategic location above Chania and Souda Bay explains why 70 years ago it was the scene of ferocious Cretan and British resistance to the Germans during the Battle of Crete.
