Muses

 Muses

D category - sleeps 2/5

'Legend has it that the islands at the mouth of Souda Bay were formed after a musical contest between Muses and Sirens. Defeated, the Sirens plucked off their wings and flung themselves into the sea to become islands'.

Muses' commands impressive views over Souda Bay over its garden and pebble beach in front and is only a stone's throw to the small sandy beach at Kalami.

Standing alone, it is a traditional Cretan family house of great charm. It is stone-built which means it remains cool in the summer and kept warm during Spring and Autumn evenings when the open Cretan fireplace can be enjoyed.

REVIEWS

"Absolutely fantastic holiday in the perfect setting! Could'nt find fault with anything - even if we tried - excellent double-ly over for everything. Thank you Pure Crete! "Mrs W Kershaw. Herts

Muses was a lovely house in a beautiful location, well equipped and great. The information book was great. Enabled us to see some of the archaeology we might have missed Ms H, Hertfordshire

"The quiet seclusion of Kalami was like having our own private beach, the food and the welcome at the Vigla Taverna...was lovely, and with Kalives just a five-minute drive away for anything else we needed, I'm afraid we did't stir ouselves to get out and about as much as we'd planned at the outset.." Mr and Mrs Mulligan, Oxfordshire

The Lady
We climbed to Aptera, a town dating from the fifth century BC with substantial ruins Roman cisterns, a classical Greek theatre and temple. On the very edge of the hilltop was a crumbling Turkish fort. From here must be the most stunning views across the Bay of Souda and the Akrotiri peninsula, and to the fortified island at the mouth of the bay.

Legend has it that these islands were formed after a musical contest between the Muses and Sirens. Defeated, the Sirens plucked off their wings and flung themselves into the sea to become islands.
