Spring in Crete offers a unique range of wild flowers with over 150 endemic species. This springtime profusion of natural beauty is at its best in April and May. Walking knee-deep in blooming wild orchids, Spring sunshine and empty beaches plus the backdrop of the snow capped White Mountains makes Spring a very special time to be in Crete.

Cretan Easter 14-21 April is celebrated with a complimentary feast of lamb cooked over open fires for Pure Crete clients served at the local taverna -with village wine and salad on the house. Greek Easter is traditionally celebrated in Crete with spit-roast lamb and the churches are decorated with wild flowers.

Country Walking in Crete 2009

£725 per person. Five days of leisurely-paced walks in the rolling countryside and dramatic gorges of Western Crete visiting villages and ancient sites amidst the

abundance of Spring flowers with a backdrop of snowcapped mountains. Walks are 3 to 4 hours ending in a village taverna or with a picnic.

Exploring Crete 2009

£705 per person.The home of the earliest Western civilization, Crete boasts the great Minoan cities of Knossos and Phaestos and also the smaller ancient ruins of Aptera. Local expert and writer Keith Hall provides a guided introduction to local history including a walking tour of Chania and visits to Minoan, Venetian, Turkish and Roman ruins.

The garden around my house was full of colour with vivid oleanders, plumbago, campsis and bougainvillea… through the summer months, there’s masses of vibrant colour from exotic plants all around the coast… 1500 species of wild flowers, 150 unique to the island. Crete certainly is a beautiful place to visit – the people are friendly and the food is incredible.
