Pure Crete arranges weddings in conjunction with flights to Chania and accommodation in beautiful Western Crete at our traditional village houses and villas, many with pools. Pure Crete Wedding Coordinator

Our wedding coordinator will work closely with you in the months before your wedding to ensure your day is tailor-made to your wishes. The basic wedding package costs £1000 and includes:

Greek Civil wedding ceremony – you choose the order of service and music, readings, personal vows and exchange of rings.
Bride's bouquet – Groom's boutonnière.
Assistance with paperwork – the wedding co-ordinator obtains all the necessary licences and takes care of all the legal papers in Crete.
She attends the ceremony, translates the proceedings and ensures that all legal papers are in place to issue the marriage certificate after the wedding.
Organising and obtaining licence.
Arrangement of reception at a taverna including live music as requested. The taverna reception can be as formal or informal as you like, from a beachside taverna to a 5-star hotel. Average costs start from around 15 Euros per head for a 3-course meal.

What is NOT included:

Cost of taverna reception.
Translation of any documents not already translated in the UK.
Any requested extras – e.g. fireworks, photographer, flowers, transport and hairdresser.
Flights (from Gatwick) and accommodation for the bride and groom.

Pure Crete's wedding tips

The Venue

There are many options for a civil ceremony:- in the grounds of your beautiful traditional villa overlooking Souda Bay, a local beach or in the Cretan chapel of St Lazarus in the old town of Rethymnon (below).

A Church wedding at a Greek Orthodox church can be arranged although either the bride or groom will have to have been baptized.

Day and Time of the Wedding

Weddings can be held on any day of the week, although in Crete it is customary to hold weddings on Friday or Saturday, usually in the late afternoon.The formal part of a civil ceremony is quite short which means that exchanging of vows, declarations, readings or the performance of music can be a lovely way of personalising a wedding

Reception in a typical Greek Taverna

There are a number of venues, including some very old and wonderful traditional Cretan tavernas. A typical Cretan wedding meal would feature fresh local produce and start with mixed appetizers followed by roast lamb or pork and a desert. A traditional Greek wedding cake is made of a light sponge with butter cream. The bride and groom traditionally present sugared almonds and a rose or cinnamon liqueur to the departing guests

Entertainment

Live music including traditional Cretan players and a performance of Cretan dancing.

Flowers and Photographs

Local florists have an abundance of choice and can provide arrangements of flowers to any budget. Local photographers can be hired to produce traditional wedding albums and videos.

Legal Requirements

Documents required for marriage in Crete include birth certificates and photocopies of passports. Detailed instructions regarding these requirements will be confirmed when required.

Mamma Mia Weddings and Pure Crete

Mamma Mia the movie musical has inspired renewed interest amongst many cinema and theatre goers to consider a holiday or wedding Mamma Mia style in the romantic setting of the Greek Islands, the largest of which is Crete.
