Crete is a beautiful place, filled with plenty of things to see and do. If you’re planning on spending your holiday in Crete, you may be wondering what you could get up to in just one week.
Here at Pure Crete, we’re dedicated to making sure that your experience of Crete is as amazing as possible, so here’s our guide to how you could spend a week in Crete.
On the day you arrive, you’ll want to relax, unwind and enjoy your very first day of your amazing holiday.
When flying from the UK, you’ll usually arrive into Chania or Herakilon Airport. From here, it’s highly recommended that you hire a car to get to your villa and explore the island as much as possible.
On your drive, it’s a good idea stop off somewhere for lunch or an afternoon snack. You’ll find many restaurants, bars and cafes to suit your tastes in Crete, however it’s highly recommended that you try some traditional Cretan cuisine, such as anthotiros and kefalotiri (cheeses), dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) and dakos (a traditional fried bread topped with tomato, olive oil, cheese and oregano).
When you arrive at the villa, it’s time to quickly unpack and then have a relaxing evening. If you’re staying in one of our Crete villas with pools, you can spend the afternoon lounging and taking a dip. In the evening, why not head out to a restaurant to sample more of the local cuisine?
On your first morning in Crete, you’ll wake up feeling refreshed and excited for what’s still to come. Have breakfast out on the balcony or on the terrace to enjoy the warmth of the Cretan sunshine before preparing for the day ahead.
On the first day of your holiday, what better way to explore and see what Crete has to offer than by taking a hike through the local countryside? Crete has many mountains and peaks for you to explore, so get your walking boots on and head out into nature.
After building up your appetite, have lunch and relax in a local cafe or, if you prefer some privacy, pop in to a local deli or hypermarket to stock up on some groceries and prepare something to eat back at your villa.
Spend the afternoon cooling off in the pool and relaxing with a book before having dinner. After having something to eat, why not take a casual evening stroll through the neighbourhood?
After a relaxing start, it’s time to pack a picnic and head to the coast for a day on the beach. By going mid-week, you should be able to avoid crowds and enjoy the amazing scenery that Crete’s many beaches have to offer.
You can unwind on the sand, paddle in the water, or, if you want to do something a bit more exciting, you can get involved in one of the many water-sports available. From snorkelling to parasailing and everything in between, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while also making the most of the coast.
After a fun day at the beach, head back to the villa and get ready for a romantic dinner out. You’ll find a huge selection of restaurants to choose from, so take advantage of the delicious food and drink on offer.
As you near the end of your stay, it’s time once again to head back out into nature and enjoy a fun activity together.
One of the best ways to see Crete is on horseback, and you’ll find that there are many local riding schools that will take you on a trek, giving you the opportunity to see Crete like you’ve never seen it before.
After a long morning exploring on horseback, you can relax over lunch as you enjoy what remains of your amazing holiday. Take scenic routes in the car on the way back to the villa so you can do some exploring of your own.
Enjoy your last full day in Crete by having a slow, calm morning with a delicious breakfast, before heading out to do some sightseeing.
Crete has a fascinating history, and one of the best ways to discover it for yourselves is by heading to Knossos to see some of the ruins dating back to the Minoan civilisation. Considered Europe’s oldest city, Knossos is an incredibly popular tourist sight and certainly something that’s not to be missed.
On your final evening in Crete, take a relaxed walk along the beach and revisit any of your favourite places, including restaurants and cafes. Make the most of the time you have left, although with any luck it won’t be too long before you return.
