The sleepy village of Maza is an ideal for a get-away-from-it-all holiday, yet it is just 5 minutes drive from the facilities of the small town of Vrisses and 10 minutes to the sandy beach of Georgioupolis.

Maza is a small village of just 100 inhabitants situated in the foothills of the White Mountains, surrounded by lush fertile valleys and wonderful views towards the mountains. Maza lies about halfway between Chania and Rethymnon. In the centre of the small village square, opposite the cafe (cafeneon), is the small Byzantine church of Agios Nikolaos dating back to 1320, with well-preserved frescoes painted by Ioannis Pagomenos. Costas and Voula, the cafe owners, and owners of Villa Maza and Villa Roussa, have the key to the church and delight in showing visitors the amazing frescoes.

Villa Maza and Villa Roussa are exclusive to Pure Crete, they are owned and maintained by Costas, Voula and their family. Villa Roussa is named after their eldest daughter. Although they only speak a little English, you are sure of a warm welcome and they are always on hand at the village cafeneon, should you need anything.

Villa Maza

View Villa Maza

Villa Maza is traditionally built on one level in Cretan stone. It stands alone commanding stunning views across the lush green valley to the White Mountains beyond. It has extensive lawned gardens surrounding the house and a large private pool. The terraces and gardens provide a perfect setting for sunbathing during the day and al fresco meals in the evening.

Villa Maza was featured at 14 in the Top, 100 Greatest Holidays on the planet by The Sunday Times.

‘You love the idea of splendid isolation in a remote villa, but wouldn’t it be nice to have somewhere lively to stroll in the evening? Here’s the ideal compromise. Villa Maza, which sleeps six, is tucked away on the edge of Maza village, in the foothills of the White Mountains, and it’s peaceful as you could wish.

A five-minute wander down the track, however, takes you to the main square and one of the best little kafenions in Crete. It’s a couple of gossiping pensioners by day, but in the evening locals flock from miles around for Voula’s simple but excellent home cooking and the banter of chummy Costas, who has a habit of breaking into song without warning. It’s all rather fab, and the Blue Flag beaches at Georgioupolis are just 10 minutes drive away’.

This property has 3 bedrooms, with the added bonus of the 3rd bedroom having an ensuite bathroom with shower, this accessed by a separate entrance thus making it equally ideal for older children or 2 couples.
