Loggerhead Turtles

The Loggerhead Turtle, known as the caretta caretta is an oceanic turtle that are found in Gerani the north-west coast of Crete and are a protected species due to their endangered status. The loggerhead turtles nest around Crete throughout May until midway through August. If you wish to view this amazing experience you must be extremely careful not to disturb the turtles as this can be harmful to the eggs. Summer time is the best time to head to Crete if you wish to see these superb creatures.

The Bearded Vulture

The bearded vulture Gypaetus barbatus is a wondrous creature, but like many birds of prey is endangered. Only 31 of these birds remain on Crete but attract many bird watchers. They can be identified by their black forehead, reddish yellow/white plumage and unique beak. These birds are incredible; they are the only birds in the world to eat bone.
