1. Elafonisi Beach, Chania

If your Cretian adventure takes you to the south west of the island then it is definitely worth paying a visit to the stunning Elafonisi beach. Approximately 80 kilometres from the city of Chania is this perfect paradise for relaxation. This exotic beach lies on the edge of clear, crisp water and has beautiful white and pink sand on which to rest.

2. Preveli Beach, near Rethymnon

Approximately 35 kilometres away from the popular resort of Rethymnon is Preveli Beach. It is often referred to as The Phoenix because of its impressive position at the imposing Kourtaliotiko gorge. This is a large and popular beach, but for something quaint and quiet head to the smaller fishing village of Bali Beach.

3. Agia Pelagia Beach, near Heraklion

If you love diving and snorkelling then this is a dream beach to visit. The small bay features crystal clear water and turquoise, glistening water. Shade is provided by the surrounding green rocks and it is the perfect place to relax.

4. Agiofarago Beach, Southern Crete

If you want a quiet, tranquil and remote beach, far from the madding crowd, then this is the place for you. Close to Matala this is a secluded beach, which is accessed either via boat from Kokkinos Pirgos or a 20-minute journey down the canyon. The beautifully clear, aquamarine water makes it worth the visit.

5. Xrysi Island

Not just a beach, but a tiny island south of Lerapetra. Xrysi is one of the 81 uninhabited islands around Crete and is only five kilometres long and one kilometre wide. The island boasts olive trees, beautifully clear water and white sandy beaches. Don’t miss the pretty port on the south east of the island where you can get a bite to eat at the local tavern.
