Crete is home to amazing species of animals and plants, a lot of them indigenous to the island. The spectacular biodiversity you can find when you visit Crete is partly due to the isolation of the island, which created flora and fauna that are specific to the region and difficult or impossible to find anywhere else – sometimes not even in other parts of the island!
Crete’s location, geography and climate gave birth to unique fauna and flora, some of which can be found anywhere on the island, others only in small habitats in certain regions.
